Laparoscopic Surgery

Laparoscopic surgery performed by a laparoscopic surgical specialist may reduce your recovery time. This form of surgery is named after the laparoscope, a very small tool containing a small video camera and light. This enables most surgeries to be performed in a minimally invasive, yet equally effective manner.

Benefits Of Laparoscopic Surgery include:

  • Reduction in the size of the surgery scar. Most laparoscopic surgeries only need small incisions. These heal faster and are often less obvious than open surgery scars.

  • Small incisions may lead to shorter recovery times and a quicker return to normal activities such as work, sports and hobbies.

  • Less pain means less analgesia required. This means fewer discharge medications and fewer possible drug interactions.

Many operations today can be performed both through traditional, "open" surgery, or laparoscopically. The choice of operation should be tailored to the patient as well as the disease. To discover if this option will be right for you, reach out to me- Jacques Marnewick, MBChB FRACS.
